James Simmons Obituary

James Madison Simmons, 61, of Sutherland, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008, in Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was son of the late Harold and Gladys Simmons, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and an automotive sales associate with Dominion Southpark. He had over 30 years of experience in the automotive business. He was an avid race fan, particularly following the Earnhardts.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Arvin Simmons; two sons, Jonathan Michael Simmons and James Carlisle Simmons (Nicole); four grandchildren, William, James, Matthew and Christopher Simmons, all of Dinwiddie County; two brothers, H. Leslie Simmons (Nancy) of Colonial Heights and Daniel W. Simmons (Patty) of Midlothian; nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. The Rev. David Prather will officiate. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George County. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at the funeral home. We will miss Jimmy here at Dominion. He was a sweetheart and it was truly an honor to have known him. His family is in our prayers, and we hope they will find solace in knowing that he is now in a better place.
