Samuel Cooley Obituary

Mr. Samuel Eli Cooley Jr., of 2420 Marina Drive Apt. K, Richmond, departed this life Wednesday Oct. 22, 2008 at his residence after a hard fought battle with congestive heart failure.

Sam, or "Juney" as he was so fondly known, was born April 21, 1958, in Roxbury, Mass., to Samuel Eli Cooley Sr. and the late Bessie Louise Laury Cooley. In 1960 the family moved to Baltimore, Md., where Sam was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He was very bright and had a knack for making people laugh. Sam accepted Jesus Christ in his life at an early age, lived life like a feather in the wind and expressed his love for his children, family and friends in a unique way that only they can feel.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his parents, Samuel Sr. and stepmother Pastor Mamie Johnson Cooley of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Michael Webster of Colonial Heights; four sisters, Yvonne A. Claiborne (Jerry) of Richmond, Sharon T. Cooley Johnson (Derrick), Antoinette M. Cooley and Paula D. Brown of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Letitia A. Cooley of Baltimore, Md., and Samatha Johnson of King William County; three sons, Brandon Faulkner-Cooley and Anthony Cooley both of Baltimore, Md., and Cameron Ahmad Houcher of Richmond; three granddaughters, Shakira Gaskins, Mariah Nue and Alaysia Cooley of Baltimore, Md.; two grandsons, Jordan Nue and Quantae Faulkner-Cooley of Baltimore, Md.; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, including an especially close nephew, Jerry W. Claiborne Jr. of Richmond and friends, one devoted, Deidra Brinkley "Dee Dee" of Richmond.

A Funeral Service will be held noon Tuesday Oct. 28, 2008, at the Chapel of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg with the Rev. Albert Toney officiating. A wake will be held a half hour before the service. The interment will be at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield.

Services have been entrusted to the staff of William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, now serving from three locations. (804) 732-7841.
