Theodore Gilliam Obituary

Mr. Theodore R. Gilliam, age 68, of 647 W. Washington St., Apartment 2, Petersburg, Va., departed this life of a sudden illness on Thursday morning, Oct. 23, 2008, at VCU/MCV Medical Center, Richmond, Va.

He was a native of Dinwiddie County, and a son of the late Waverly Gilliam and Nellie Jackson Gilliam of Ford, Va. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie O. Gilliam, Herman Gilliam, Leroy Gilliam, William Gilliam, Arthur Gilliam and Clarence Gilliam; and one sister, Gracie Bland. He was a master carpenter for over 50 years. Theodore was a former member of the Mount Poole Baptist Church.

He leaves to mourn, his seven daughters, Rhyvan Gilliam (Waverly) of Poolesiding, Va., Gaye Mullen, Charlene Woodley, Dwanda Harper (Bernard), Giesele Gilmore and Tesha Lofton (James), all of Petersburg, Va.; and Hope Gilliam Hill (Stefan) of Hopewell, Va; and the mother of his daughters, Almeaner Gilliam of Petersburg, Va.; sisters, (twin sister) Teresa G. Dickins of Petersburg, Va., and Rozelia Hayes (Floyd) of Baltimore; brothers, Herbert Gilliam (Evenlyn) of Ettrick, Va., James I. Gilliam (Jearline) of Ford, Va.; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virgie Bland of Ford, Va.; brother-in-law, Willie Bland of Ford, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and a devoted friend of many years, Langston Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Mount Poole Baptist Church, 9515 Baltimore Road, Ford, Va.; the Rev. Stephen Pugh, pastor, officiating and Pastor Darryl Jennings of Abundant Praise Christian Fellowship, Richmond, Va., eulogist. Interment to follow at church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at the funeral establishment. The family will also receive friends at 22905 Pintail Lane, Petersburg, Va., and may be contacted by calling (804) 861-3424.
