Christine Barco Obituary

Christine Watts Barco, 78, of 1316 Root Trail, Martinsville, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, N.C.

She was born in Tabor City, N.C., July 30, 1930 to Raymond Haywood Watts and Effie Lena Hewett Watts. She was an active member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church since 1963 as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, Presbyterian Women of the Church, and other activities. In addition, she was a volunteer for 20 years at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville-Henry County. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice W. Stray and Jean W. Hudson; two brothers, Joe T. Watts and Robert H. Watts; and a very special nephew, Terry Wayne Watts.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ernest D. "Durk" Barco of the residence; a daughter, Donna Watts Barco, also of Martinsville; a sister, Leona W. Perkins of Petersburg; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A crypt-side service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008 at Roselawn Abbey with a memorial service to follow at noon at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kenneth Hughes officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel and other times at the residence.

Memorials may be made to Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, 725 Beechnut Lane, Martinsville, VA 24112 or to any Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel.

Durk, so sorry to hear about Chris. I lost contact after I moved from C.H. and quit CCC. Chris was just a dear friend to me and a great work partner. My husband Paul died 7 yrs. ago and miss him very much. You are in my prayers and thoughts.
