Mellie Cassidy Obituary

Mellie Dale Cassidy, 96, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008.

Born in Duplin County, N.C. on April 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Beulah Henderson Dale.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and her main interest was her home and family. Mrs. Cassidy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Maurice Allen Cassidy; son-in-law, Jim Harris; four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Congdon and husband, Charlie of Gloucester, and Judy Harris of Greensboro, N.C.; son, Spike Cassidy and wife, Debbie of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Shannon Nipper and husband, William of Charlotte, N.C., Erik Harris of Chicago, Ill., Aaron Harris of Greensboro, N.C., and Ashley Coberly and husband, Pete of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Sarah Nipper.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
