Margaret McAllister Obituary

Margaret Armstrong Birchett McAllister, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, in John Randolph Medical Center. Mrs. McAllister spent many years volunteering in the community. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the chancel choir. She enjoyed being a member of the Woman's Club of Hopewell for over 55 years, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, and the Civil Air Patrol. Mrs. McAllister was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Daniel Birchett Sr. and Ruth Magruder Armstrong Birchett; her husband, William Henry McAllister Sr.; and a brother, Thomas Daniel Birchett Jr..

She is survived by her daughters, Anne B. Koch and her husband Bernard of Fresno, Calif., Frances M. Lee and her husband Keith of Hopewell, Va.; a son, William H. McAllister Jr. and his wife Susan of Prince George, Va; eight grandchildren, Karen Lipp of Richland, Wash., Anne Marie Avellar of Fresno, Calif., Erick K. Lee of Nashville, Tenn., J. Brian Lee and Elizabeth L. Reighard, both of Colonial Heights, Va., David W. McAllister, Matthew B. McAllister, both of Hopewell, Va., and Kimberley E. Moskowitz of Bradenton, Fla.; four great-grandsons; and seven great- granddaughters; her niece, Ruth Birchett Willowby and her husband Michael of Birmingham, Ala.; and her nephew, Thomas Daniel (Danny) Birchett III and his wife Norma, of Hopewell, Va.; and several great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at noon in the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Dr. Ron Bullis, pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Appomattox Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1107 W. Broadway, Hopewell, VA 23860. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com
