Joshua T. Goode Sr.

Mr. Joshua Thomas Goode Sr., "Josh," 87, of 21213 Trojan Drive, Ettrick, Va., silently whispered and his soul took a flight to an eternal place to rest on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008.

He was a native of Chesterfield County, Va., born Aug. 16, 1921, to the late Augustus Goode and Elizabeth Goode Cox.

Joshua confessed Christ an early age at Lee's Chapel in Chesterfield County. He later transferred his membership to Union Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Usher's and Trustee's Ministries and the Golden Circle until his health declined. He retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company after 28 years of service. He was a Scout Master of the former Boy Scout Troop #139 and the King David Lodge #233/246. Joshua had a love for fishing, hunting and bowling, where he joined the Salisbury Hunting Club of Surry County and the Bi-City Mix and Cock-Ade Bowling Leagues of Petersburg. He was also a former member of Club Char-Lemanze and Tri-City CB Club of Petersburg.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving wife, Delores Goode; four children, Joshua Goode, Jr. (Joyce) and Michael Thomas (Laurie), Cecelia Smith and Patricia Brown (Tyrone); nine grandchildren, Barbara Goode, Trikesha Nordblad, Wayne and Dwayne Alexander, Zephino Goode, Rhonda and Patrice Brown, Alonté Thomas and Joshua Maclin; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, James Thomas (Grace) and Harold Thomas (Marilyn), both of Matoaca, Va.; six sisters-in-law, Ernestine Thorpe and Alma Kemper of Matoaca, Va., Alice Freeman (William) of Petersburg, Va., Arlene Wilson of Aberdeen, Md., Virginia King of Caseyville, Ill., and Gloria Jones of Bronx, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, a very devoted neighbor and friend, Clementine Marshall.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Union Grove Baptist Church, 19111 Church Road, Petersburg, Va., the Rev. Douglas Harris, interim pastor, officiating and the Rev. Joseph Goode, pastor of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Suffolk, edulogist. Interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park and Mausoleum, Chester.
