Barry Simmons Obituary

Barry D. Simmons of Petersburg was called home Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008 at Southside Regional Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 6, 1955 to the late Alice B. Simmons.

He was the grandson of the late Alice S. Wiggins and John Wiggins.

He had lived at the Golden Living Center, Petersburg, formally known as Walnut Hill Convalescent Center, since 1993 where he was nurtured and supported by a very caring nursing home staff. He also enjoyed his day program at the Mary Carter Beacon House four days a week where he was also nurtured and shown how to perform activities of daily living. He also enjoyed field trips including trips to Wendy's.

Barry is survived by his cousins, Mrs. Carrie Tarrance, Mrs. Mary Stith of Petersburg, and cousin and guardian, Ms. Amelia Jackson of Alexandria, Va. and several other cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Antonio A. Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Dinwiddie Memorial Park. The immediate family will assemble at 10 a.m. at the residence of Mrs. Carrie Tarrance, 1130 W. Wythe St., Petersburg. Pallbearers and friends will assemble at Tucker Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mary Carter Beacon House for Handicapped Adults, Inc. 142 E. Wythe St., Petersburg. Services are under the direction of Tucker Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg.
