Ethel Simpson Obituary

Mrs. Ethel C. Simpson departed this life quietly at the Golden Living Center on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008.

Mrs. Singleton was born Nov. 21, 1905, in the Sutherland community. Upon completing her education she relocated to the Long Island area of New York where she lived and worked for more than 50 years. Upon her return she moved her membership to Zion Baptist Church where she was very active until health issues curtailed her activities.

She leaves to mourn her passing, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edith Washington; nieces, Mrs. Cora Bolling, Mrs. Jean Griffin, Mrs. Kendra Minor and Mrs. Audrey Stewart; her surviving nephews include Clifton Washington, Alvin Washington, Harvey Washington Jr., David Washington Jr., Joseph Washington, Isiam Washington, Ralph Washington, Horace Washington, Robert Jones Jr., Marvin Jones, James Jones, Peter Singleton and Paul Singleton. Additionally Mrs. Simpson is survived by three loving and devoted cousins, Mrs. Annie Polk (Walter), Mrs. Gray Barrow and Mrs. Ida Allen; and many other caring relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Zion Baptist Church, 225 Byrne St., Petersburg, Va.; the Rev. Dr. Andrew J. White Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment to follow at Bermuda Memorial Park.

Honorary and active pallbearers are asked to assemble at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

The family will assemble at 10 a.m. the day of the services and receive friends at 3413 North St., Ettrick, Va. The family may also be contacted by calling (804) 526-5981.
