Joseph Simmons Sr.

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our loved one, Mr. Joseph Simmons Sr., age 67, of Spring Valley, N.Y. He died at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffolk County, N.Y.

He was a native of Petersburg, Va. (Dinwiddie). He was born April 12, 1941, to the late Claude Simmons Sr. and Ruth Jackson Simmons. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Claude Simmons III, and a mother-in-law, Mrs. Edith Dean.

He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Joseph Simmons Jr. (Bonita), Lisa King (Ricky), all of Petersburg, and Barry Simmons (Kathy) of Spring Valley, N.Y.; and a stepson, Timothy Dean of Petersburg; a devoted adopted daughter, Louise Everett Stephens (John) of Spring Valley, N.Y.; two sisters, Ms. Frenchie Miller and Mrs. Myra Harper (Richard) of Petersburg; six brothers, Larland Simmons (Renda) of Wilson, N.C., Kaiser (Melvina), James (Gladys), Gerald, Michael and Claude Simmons Jr., all of Petersburg; nine grandchildren, Racheal Shearn, Tiffany, Brittany, Ashley and Noah Simmons, all of Petersburg, Barry Jr., Asia, Sierra and Faith Simmons, all of Spring Valley, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; two devoted friends, former wife, Cindy Lou Simmons Dean of Petersburg and Mr. Bob Nixon of Spring Valley, N.Y.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Chapel of Tucker Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va. Interment will be in Mt. Minnis Memorial Park, Chester. The family will assemble at 5917 Church Road, Petersburg (Piney Beach), Minister Renda Simmons. The family may be contacted at 722-0808, the niece, Natascha Robinson's residence, and will kindly assemble there at 1 p.m. for the funeral on Thursday.
