Virginia D'Amato Obituary

Virginia Lee D'Amato, age 81, of Longs, S.C., formerly of Prince George, Va., passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in the loving care of her family and special friends of the Autumn Care Nursing and Rehab Center of Shallotte, N.C.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1927, in Hopewell, Va. She graduated from Carson High School in 1944 and attended Smithdeal Massey Business College. She met her husband, Tony, in 1948 and married him 20 days later. As the proud wife of an Army career soldier, she followed the love of her life to various military installations abroad and stateside with their three daughters in tow.

Her travels led to a career with the U.S. Civil Service and spans a little over four decades. "Ginny," as she was known to colleagues, family and friends, was a dedicated civilian personnel employee. Duty assignments in Japan, Germany, Italy and Virginia included administrative clerk, secretary to civilian personnel officers; secretary to the commander of the 66th Military Intelligence Group; chief of the administrative section, Detachment D, 766th Military Intelligence Detachment; secretary to the dean, School of Acquisition Management; and management analyst. Over the course of her career, she received numerous awards and letters of commendation for her meritorious service and exemplary performance of duty. She retired from the Army Logistics Management Center at Fort Lee, Va., in 2000.

She was actively involved in many clubs and charitable organizations including the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Army Community Services and the NCO Wives' Club. Ginny's generous and compassionate nature extended from her heart to others and she was always willing to reach out to those in need to offer friendship, support and understanding.

Ginny will always be remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit and devotion to family. She loved reading, working on the computer, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, and listening to the "tunes" of Rod Stewart, Kenny Rogers and Willie Nelson. As her family and friends will attest, she had great enthusiasm and a passion for life. She will be sorely missed by those whose lives she touched. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Anthony D'Amato, and her parents, Clarence Eugene Dise and Mamie Lee Dise.

She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Lee Fair (Robert Fair) of Sandusky, Ohio, Deborah Kaye Schnoor (Ron Schnoor) of Ocean Springs, Miss., Toni Lynn D'Amato-Teed of Longs, S.C.; her brother, Michael Dise (Jenny Dise) of Carson, Va.; her sister-in-law, Josephine Avella of Ozone Park, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Jessica Howard of Denver, Alisha Heath (Rob Heath) of Ramsey, Minn., Katie Howard of St. Paul, Minn., Ryan Schnoor (Melissa Schnoor) of Pascagoula, Miss., Zachary Schnoor of Ocean Springs, Miss., Garrett Anthony Teed of Longs, S.C.; six great-grandchildren; and best friend, Pam Ludwig, of Chester, Va.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful people at Autumn Care for their dedication and the personal attention given to Ginny. We are eternally grateful for the love and kindness shown to her and her family.

Private memorial and interment services, with family and close friends, will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, in Washington, D.C., at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myrtlebeachonline.net. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or to the contributor's favorite charity.

To my Dearest Sisters, Family and Friends,
As we end the year of 2009 it comes to me that so much time has passed and it will be one year since Virginia Lee D'Amato left us to be with God and family. The pain she suffered has been no more and she is healthy, young and beautiful. Being with My Father Anthony D'Amato, her husband of 52 yrs they are together again floating through heaven looking down and seeing their accomplishments of the life they lived. But they also look down they see three beautiful daughters that have grown to be strong, self-preserved, self-confident, beautiful women in their own right. That is the accomplishment I know they are proud of the most.
Losing our Mother was the most devastating thing a daughter could ever experience and one that will never heal but somehow will soothe for us to be able to carry on her legacy...
She will always be in our hearts, minds and spirits and we grow older. She will always live in our lives in the later years and will be there to take our hand when it is our time to leave this earth. May we always do the right thing and choose the right path so that we may always honor our Mother and Father; Virginia and Anthony; the loving parents we dearly loved and will continue to be close to our hearts and thoughts.
As I close this year I know I will never be the same, but the harsh lesson i have taken away from this loss is Faith, Hope, Love and Strength, for these are the things I developed through the sorrow I have endured. And to always try and be a better person and know GOD will HELP THROUGH ALL...
Goodbye my love, my friend, my confidante and most of all my beautiful MOTHER... You will always be in my heart. Thank You for being who you were for I am a much better person being your daughter.

I love you MOO MOO!!!!

Debbie, Teresa and Toni: Oh how I loved Ginny! Just to hear her say, "what's going on girl?" one more time would be a wonderful memory. She was a spark plug for every social event when she was at ALMC. We had lunch together many times, and had long chats when she talked about each of you. She loved you so, and was always shopping for just the right gift for each of you. As silly as it may sound, that may be what you miss most--the special gifts from your parents, as they were a symbol of their love for each of you. Just put on one of her favorite CDs and savor the memories. Love, Stuart Short (Dabney sends his sympathy and love also)

Debbie, Tereasa, Toni and Family
I was saddened to learn of your Mother's passing. I will always remember Ginny for her love for her family. She was always so proud of you. She and I shared many happy times sharing stories of my grandaughter Amber and her grandson Garrett, who are about the same age. She was a true friend and mentor to me when I went to work at ALMC. May you find peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering and that she is fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched.

Girls,
You have my heartfelt sympathy for your great loss. Ginny was my friend during our many years at ALMC. Although we often argued over minor things, I always had the greatest respect and admiration for her. This has been a loss for us but Heaven has gained a real treasure.

To Ginny's "Girls" and their families:

She was so very proud of each one of you and her love for you all was evident for the world to see. I was privileged to know and work with Ginny for 16 years and found her to be one of the most generous and caring individuals that I have ever called "friend." She will be a warm spot in my heart and memory forever as she will for many, many others I'm sure.

God bless and comfort you.
