Charles Sykes Obituary

Mr. Charles C. Sykes, affectionately known as "Peter," of 10189 Vinco Circle, Stony Creek, Va., died Sunday morning, Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at his residence.

He was the son of the late Percy Sykes and the late Mary Sykes of Prince George, Va. Peter was the youngest of the five children. He was employed by Roper Lumber Co. for a number of years. He was a member of the Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek. Besides both his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elviria Briggs; three brothers, Robert, Eddie and Percy Sykes Jr.,

He leaves to cherish his memories: a daughter, Vella Brown (Weeladdie) of Richmond; one son, Charles Hill; two sisters in law, Alice Sykes and Frances Sykes, both of Petersburg; five grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, one devoted niece, Aleesha Blue (Tyrone), and two devoted friends, Mary L. Booth and Glover Pegram; two devoted caretakers, Dora Pegram and Magnolia Gordon; and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles will be held on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church, Stony Creek, with the pastor, the Rev. Dr. Linwood James, officiating, and the Rev. Dr. Carroll Robb, eulogizing.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his niece, Aleesha Blue, 12194 Flowers Road, Stony Creek, and will assemble there at 10:15 a.m. on the morning of the service.

To the Sykes family: I had the opportuntity to meet Charles in 1997, after moving here from Richmond, VA. He met me with a smile and a handshake. He helped me move into my home. Mr. Sykes was always ready to lend a helping hand. He will be missed.

To the family of the late charles Sykes,first let me say Peter" as i called him was a very good hearted person,I remember when he lived near my mom( MRS GLORIA SILLS ) IT WAS'NT ANYTHING HE WOULDNT DO TO HELP HER AND FOR THAT I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL!
