Martha Wyatt Obituary

On Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at 1:15 p.m., Ms. Martha Beatrice Wyatt, 101, affectionately and lovingly referred to as "Bee," "BeeBee," "Granny" and "Aunt Bee," answered the Master's call from this earthly home to her heavenly home.

"BeeBee" resided at 621 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, Va., but formerly of 1633 Halifax St., Petersburg, Va.

"Aunt Bee" was born to the late John Wyatt and Susie Parham on Sept. 17, 1907 in Jarrett, Va. At an young age she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the First Baptist Church, Jarrett, Va., and later became a watch-care member of the New First Baptist Church, Petersburg, Va. "Aunt Bee" was a true servant of the Lord who didn't mind working in the Vineyard. She stood on the word of God that declared "only what you do for Christ will last."

"BeeBee" was a beloved mother of one daughter, the late Mrs. Bernice Grandison, but spiritually she was a mother and grandmother to many by serving as a member of the Foster Grandparent Program at the Southside Virginia Training School.

"Who can find a virtuous woman for her prices is far above rubies," Proverbs 31:10. "BeeBee" was a woman of great strength, courage and faith. Through 10 decades and three generations, her unwavering faith permitted her to endure the struggles and hardships during segregation, the Great Depression, slavery, and even gaining the right to Vote. But through it all her hope and belief remained anchored in the Lord.

"Bee" was preceded in death by 10 siblings and a son-in-law, Mr. Woodrow Grandison.

"BeeBee" was a devoted and precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was loved by all and will be missed by many. Even while she is no longer physically present with us we can bless the Lord in knowing that she is in the present of the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her memory: five devoted grandchildren, Linda Grandison, Joan Smith (Timothy-Tee), Woodrow Grandison Sr. (Veronica), Larry Gandison and Warren "Terry" Fields (Doretha); seven loving great grandchildren, Valenica Grandison (Rodney), Cheva S. Smith (William), Wyouka Grandison, Woodrow "Ducky" Grandison Jr., Wykeena Grandison (Brodrick), Kenneth Tucker, LoRetta James and Julisha Winfield; five precious great-great grandchildren, Warren Fields Jr., Tyashia Grandison, TyJuan Grandison-Blizzard, Ray Sean Grandison, Brianna G. Giles, Damien Grandison-King, Deonte Grandison-King, Tevon Smith, Jayla Smith, and Anthony James; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at First Baptist Church, Jarrett, Va. with the Rev. George Mayes, pastor, and Rev. A. L. Williams, pastor of Big Bethel Baptist Church, McKenney, Va., eulogist.

Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Petersburg, Va.

The family will receive family and friends at the residence, 621 Conduit Road, Colonial Heights, Va., and may be contacted by calling (804) 255-6256.

FROM TASHA to my family

December 15, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
