We moved our family to Emmett in 1990 after the oil boom crashed in Utah. We lived on Williams Road and up the road lived Howard and Opal. We loved them, all eight of us. In 1991 our oldest daughter Amanda and her husband Mike were newly weds. Shortly after they were married Mike had to have a kidney removed. He was home bound for a couple of months and the days seemed to drag on forever. Howard & Opal were assigned as their home teachers. They were honestly administering angels as they would bake cakes prepare meals and visit Mike & Amanda during Mikes long recovery. When Mike and Amanda's son was born Howard & Opal quickly became a couple of adopted grand parents. Bryson's baby picture sat on the piano right next to their own grand children. Howard wasn't even disappointed when he learned Bryson's middle name Howard was after Mike, he just smiled bigger. I can only imagine the reunion Opal & Howard had. Heaven won't be the same now they are back together! We truly love them. May God bless you Janice & Darlene. I know that there are no words to comfort you at such a time but hopefully you will find peace in the memories that you shared with your parents and comfort in knowing how much others thought of them. Sincerely, Connie Holgate

Howard was a good example, and as one of many we share and extend a "Thanks" for the caring interest to the young men of the Church. We appreciate your interest to care and guide so many. I'll remember the fishing trip of us Explorer Scouts, riding up in your pick-up with the camper shell cover, and seeing you catch some good trout, and teaching us how to do it too. I'll always think of you and your Opal as a great, caring couple.

Hey, thanks Howard for all the young kids you influenced when I was a youngster in the 50s and 60s. Thanks for taking the time to fix broken bikes and toys, and the church and scout work, you were definitely a good example.

Howard was my one of my favorite hometeachers. His visits were entertaining and special. He always made me feel special and important. It was always a treat to visit Opel and Howard at thier home. They Always made me feel at home from the time I was very young to the last time I visited. Their memory with me will be one that I keep forever. Until I see them again. May your feelings this day be filled with gratitude from me and others that are better because of Howard and Opel. They made this world a better place.

We were newly married when we moved into a new duplex across the street from Howard & Opal in 1978. Our son was born a year later while living there. Howard & Opal were good neighbors by looking after us as a young family. The inside of their home was always immaculate & the outside manicured. Opal was such a tiny woman--never a hair out of place. She & Howard were an inspiration in the way they lived their lives together. They spoke of you two daughters, Janice & Darlene. We're glad to have had the good fortune of having a relationship with both of them. We'll miss them and the qualities they brought to this community.

Our condolences,
Joey & Tonya Keene
