Emma Smith Obituary

Emma Gertrude Johnson Haith Smith departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at her home in Colonial Heights, Va. after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 15, 1933 in Salisbury, Md. to Jesse Johnson Sr. and Maggie Pindell.

Emma was educated in the Baltimore Public School System. She continued her education at Bristol Community College in Fall River, Mass. and received her Associates Degree in Business Management.

Accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while living in New Bedford, Mass., she was an active member of Union Branch Baptist Church.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Louis Smith, of Newport News, Va.; her parents, Jesse Johnson Sr. and Maggie Pindell of Annapolis, Md.; her brothers, Elijah Johnson of North Carolina and Jesses Johnson Jr. of Hampton, Va. and her son, Brodie L. Haith Jr of North Carolina.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory her 12 children: son, Bryant L. Haith of Tampa, Fla., daughter, Bryna E. Patrick (Theodore S. "Teddy"), son, Bradford L. Haith (Paula) of Virginia Beach, Va., son, Bruce L. Haith, of Lowell, Mass., son, Brock L. Haith (Charlene) of Chester, Va., son, Brett L. Haith (Dolores) of New Bedford, Mass., son, Brennan E. Haith (Karin) of Neu Ulm, Germany, daughter, Bridget C Carter of Lowell, Mass., son, James A. Carter-Haith Jr. of Texas, son, Jason E.Carter of New Bedford, Mass., daughter, Bridetta G. Williams of Richmond, Va., and daughter, Brendolyn R. Muniz of Colonial Heights, Va.; grandchildren: Jamaal, Brodie, III, Wayne, Mallory, Theo, Sheena, Bryce, Raymond, Ronald, Derrick, Sonya, Bradford Jr. Anthony, Tyronne, Bruce Jr. Stacee, Bret Jr., Nina, Yolanda, Kathrinia, Janell, James Jr. Brina, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, Colonial Heigihts, with The Rev. Juanita Harrison officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Minnis Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Tuckers Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg.

I am going to miss Emma. She was one of the sweetest neighbors. Last summer when it was warm I looked foward to seeing her outside and visiting. She made me laugh and was quiet a strong woman! I'll remember her always............
