Lenroy Smith Obituary

Lenroy Smith, 59, of Brooklyn, N.Y., departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at the Saint John's Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway, N.Y.

He was born to the late Ollie Smith Jr. and Mary Perry Smith, of Waverly, Va. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Haywood and Oliver James Smith. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Waverly, until he relocated.

He received his education in the Sussex County School System, graduating from Central High School in 1969.

Lenroy moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1970, and was employed by Health and Hospital Corporation as a patient escort at Goldwater Memorial Hospital and as a maintenance engineer and carpenter in large residential buildings in the city.

Lenroy had a very unique personality. He was an intelligent, kind, loving person, who had a gentle soul and always maintained a sense of pride no matter the circumstances. He was a very good artist, loved sports, and carpentry, and enjoyed fishing.

Special thanks to the staff of Woodhall Medical Center of Brooklyn, N.Y, Brookhaven Rehabilitation Center, and Saint John's Episcopal Hospital, Far Rockaway, N.Y.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 27, at the First Baptist Church, Waverly. The Rev. Samuel Robinson, pastor, will officiate and Pastor Harold L. Dugger, of Washington, D.C., will eulogize. The interment will be in the Waverly Cemetery.
