Tara Welch Obituary
She was a loving wife, daughter and sister.
Tara grew up spending summers at Beulah Recreation where she was a lifeguard and an avid swimmer.
She graduated from Meadowbrook High School and continued her education at Virginia Tech where she obtained her graduate and post-graduate degrees in Education. Tara began her career six years ago teaching at Curtis Elementary in Chester, where she was currently employed. She also grew up attending Tomahawk Baptist and Branch's Baptist Church. Tara was an athlete and runner throughout school. She continued this by participating in charitable runs later in life. Tara greatly valued family life and the relationships she had with her husband, parents and siblings.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Welch; parents, Cla and Janice Meredith; sisters, Rachel McCaffrey and husband, Colin, and Katie Austin and husband, Jeremy; brother, Cla Meredith and wife, Natalie; nieces and nephews, Brenan, Erin and Meredith McCaffrey and Layla and Jaxson Austin; and grandparents, William and Era Walker.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 in Tomahawk Baptist Church, 12920 Hull St. Road, Midlothian, Va. 23112 with family receiving friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions payable to: Tara's Children Trust. This fund is for school children in need and can be sent to: KSKG, 823 E. Main St., 14th Floor, Richmond, VA 23219.

My sadness is overwhelming. Just the other day I was remembering the adventures I shared with Tara and Debbie. Tara was lovely. She always brought brightness to any situation. I can still hear her laugh. It is surreal to see the use of the past tense when describing her.

A bishop once told me after a great loss that I was so lucky that the Lord allowed me to have an angel even if it for just a brief time. I knew Tara while substituting at Curtis a couple of years ago, and I learned that her husband worked with one of my friends for a couple of years. Tara and I went to school together at Falling Creek Middle and Meadowbrook High School before I moved to the Manchester High School district. She was one of my best friends during that time and unfortunately, we lost touch until recently. I was greatly saddened by the news of her untimely death and wish, hope and pray only the best for your families in this time of need. She is indeed in a much better place now as she always had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. If there is anything that I can do, please let me know. Tara was always there when I needed her growing up, especially during my parents divorce. She and I were in almost every single class together throughout school and she was a great athlete as well. The world will not be the same without her. She will be greatly missed.

When I think of Tara, I will always think of her smile. It was luminous and infectious. She was such an amazing friend to me when we were in middle school. She was beautiful, popular, funny, smart, and athletic, but most importantly, she loved others. When I recently found her on myspace and facebook, it was almost like no time had passed, even though it had been over 10 years since we had last seen or talked to each other. I am so glad that I had the chance to talk with her again.
For all those who had the privilege of knowing her, I know that she will be greatly missed for the days that were and sorely longed for in the days to come. I hope, like so many others, to see her smile, shining once again, the day we see each other in Heaven.

I'll never forget meeting Tara for the first time at college. On move in day in the elevator she asked me "Are you my roommate?" I loved her instantly. Her sweet, innocent demenor was so genuine and unique in this day and age. There are so many happy times I will cherish.

Dear Rachel and Colin,
A friend of your mother called to tell me the terrible news this morning on the chance that my girls (Veronica and Nikki) knew the Meredith family. Boy, was she ever right - do we ever. The Meredith family - one of the BEST at Meadowbrook! And one of our personal favorites! Your sweet Tara was such a wonderful person and we were blessed to have her in the gang. I am praying for you in your loss . . . I know it is more painful than anything you have ever been through. Let God wrap his loving arms around you and be buoyed by wonderful memories of good times. Mrs Welch was my little boys teacher in 2nd grade (Darien Barlow)
she was one of his favorite teachers he was a great teacher and a great person I am so sorry to hear of her passing may god bless the family in thier time of sorrow she will be missed by everyone

Tara and my daughter Elisa attended MBK together and though I certainly didn't know her well, I was struck then (and remember today) by Tara's vibrant, joy-filled smile. She was a beautiful young woman and I hold her and your entire family close in prayer. May the grace of God and the love of friends and family see you through this most difficult time.

To the Meridith and Welch Family,
My daughter Debbie (Duquette) Deskins, and Tara roomed together at VT for 4 years and Tara was a beautiful bridesmaid for our daughter less than 2 years ago. Debbie and Tara went on vacation with us to Marco Island and it was so much fun watching Debbie and Tara at the beach and how they enjoyed themselves when I took them to High Tea at the Ritz Carlton. I loved Tara like a daughter and will cherish all of my memories with her and my daughter Debbie at VT, Marco Island and at my daughter's wedding. Tara had the most amazing smile, and was the sweetest friend to all she knew. I know my daughter and I will miss her and are so lucky to have been blessed with her friendship. My heart is breaking for her family and new husband Ron. God Bless each and everyone of you. We loved Tara.
