Lila Soler Obituary

Lila M. Soler, 86, originally of San Juan, Puerto Rico, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Petersburg, Va., where she had resided since January 2008.

Mrs. Soler is survived by her three children, Lila Soler Clements (and S. Brandon Clements) of Petersburg, David A. Soler (and Joyce Soler) of Mount Holly, N.J.; and Rita Soler Ossolinski (and Matthew M. Ossolinski) of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren, James R. Goodloe II of Hoboken, N.J., Tori M. Goodloe (Little) of Charlottesville, Va., David M. Soler of Severn, Md., and Miranda and Mark Ossolinski of Washington, D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Nora Grace Little of Charlottesville, Va., and Jason D. Soler of Severn, Md.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in her name be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org) or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital (St.Jude.org).

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Golden Living Center of Petersburg for the care given to our mother in the time that she spent there.

My son just shared with me of Lila's passing. I hope she was as comfortable and at peace as possible. Her life was not the easiest. As I grow older, I better understand the many shades of grey which fall between black and white. My condolences.

I send my condolences for the loss of your mother. My name was Pam Smith and I knew David and Lila when we lived at Ft. Monroe. My mother was Director of the Teen Club. I understand your loss as my father passsed away on Feb. 3, 2009. I hope you will be able to take comfort in your memories. I wish you all the very best at this trying time.
