Mittie Maclin Obituary

Mrs. Mittie P. Maclin, of Rawlings, Va., quietly departed this life on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, after living a full life. Mittie was one of six children born to the late James and Winnie Jordan Pegram on Nov. 6, 1910.

Early in life she devoted her life to Christ and was baptized at Hickory Run Baptist Church where she was a faithful member and served as a Sunday school teacher, Senior Choir member along with being on the Missionary Society. Mittie was a diligent farmer, a talented quilter and also loved to crochet. She was an active member in the Lake Country Area Agency on Aging, where she enjoyed all the activities offered to the senior citizens in the community. She loved being on the farm and was known to take her stroll around the farm for her daily exercise. Mittie loved to laugh and would laugh at most anything that tickled her.

She was married to Fred Campbell and from this union, one son was born, James Fred Campbell Sr,. both of whom preceded her in death. She later married Melford Maclin, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by a devoted daughter-in-law, Josephine Campbell; a stepdaughter, Ruth Maclin Walker (William Lee) of Arlington, Va.; four grandsons, Clarence, James Jr. (Allene), Lee (Rhonda), all of Rawlings, and Leo of New York; seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a devoted friend, Sister Rosa Maclin; Mrs. Barbara Coleman; nieces and nephews, who fondly knew her as Tooka; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at the Hickory Run Baptist Church, Rawlings, Va., with the pastor, the Rev. Pernell Simms, officiating. Burial will follow at the Campbell Family Cemetery, Rawlings. Public viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maclin surely will be missed. She was such a pleasant lady. Dad and Mom always talked about how they would see her taking the, seeminlgy daily, walk with her dog. She is resting in peace...God needed her to come home. We have you all in our prayers. Love, Barbara Calvin for James & Leora Calvin & Family.

To the Campbell and Maclin family, you have our deepest sympathy in this time of bereavement for Mrs. Maclin. I remember her as a sweet little lady, that loved to smile and be kind. As a little girl, I remember her singing in the choir, and going to her house for the missionary meetings with my mom and dad. She will be missed, but family, just remember, she is now an angel looking down on all of us. If it is the Lord's will, we shall all meet together again one day in that heavenly place above. God Bless.....The Jones family
