Sorry to hear the loss of Mr. Garfinkel. My mother, Louise, was an avid shopper at his clothing store. She was so excited when she came home with a new dress. she has also passed but I know she would want to thank him for the wonderful experiences she had in his store. Thank you. Thomas

I grew up in Hopewell and as a child I remember my step-mom, Carol Yerby, taking me in to Garfinkels shopping for dresses. I see the downtown area today and wish it were as it was in the 60's. The most beautiful clothes I had ever seen and your dad was always so kind and patient and quick to smile. I was sorry to see it leave Hopewell and I am sorry for your loss. Dads are a special gift from God.

Hi Cousins,
I just heard the sad news from Shibbie on Sunday. Nothing anyone can say will be able to make you feel better. The old axiom, “Time heals all wounds” is the closest to expressing how you will feel in years to come. The other axiom, “Life goes on” is obviously true as well. Taken in this context, it seems rather harsh. I heard them both and was almost angry when people said them to me. Eventually, time will soften the edges of your grief and lessen your sense of loss.
You will never get over being able to pick up the phone for a chat or advice; or sneak by for those “forbidden” snacks and just hanging out. Be thankful you had time to say your goodbyes and that you were there to comfort him and each other.
Please accept my condolences and stay close to each other.

You may not remember me but I'm Mary Ellen King's daughter in law(Fred's wife). I am really sorry to hear about Mr Garfinkel. He was really a good man. I remember when I would go into the store to see Mary Ellen, he was always so nice. My heart is with you at this time.
