Corene Wright Obituary

Corene Morgan West Wright, 85, a resident of Waverly, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at MCV Hospital in Richmond.

Born on Aug. 9, 1923 near Holland, Va. She was the daughter of the late Junius J. and Bettie Vaughan Morgan. She was the widow of Landon May West, who died Sept. 16, 1982.

She is survived by her husband, James P. Wright; a daughter Mary West Geist and her husband, Jude, of Emporia; a son, L. Mack West and his wife Tanya of Waverly; four grandchildren, Hannah Claire Geist, Jude Geist Jr., Brittany Renee West, and Landon Scott West. She was predeceased by a brother, Jimmie McClenney.

Corene was a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church and had worked as a telephone operator for C & P Telephone for 33 years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and Grammy.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield.

Burial will follow in the Waverly Cemetery in Waverly. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence of Mack and Tanya West, 28461 Sussex Dr., Waverly, VA 23890.

Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890. Condolences may be posted at www.jtmorriss.com.
