Connie Scarbrough Obituary

Connie Grammer Scarbrough, of 315 Grove Ave., Petersburg, died at her home on June 15, 2009.

A native of Petersburg, Connie was one of the first pioneers in the historic revival of Petersburg, after moving to High Street with her family in 1972.

Until the time of her death, she continued to serve the downtown community and was an active member of the Olde Town Neighborhood Watch Patrol. A graduate of Petersburg High School, she was an eloquent writer. She was a scholarship recipient and student of journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Mass Communications. Connie was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Dorothy (Eanes) and Aubrey Grammer, and Janie Grammer Walker.

Connie is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Scarbrough and Catherine Scarbrough DeSouza (Larry); grandchildren, Steven Scarbrough Wilson, Caroline DeSouza, Catherine Lee DeSouza and Claire DeSouza; a sister, Cheryl Grammer Best (Donald); and nephews, Donald and Jason Best.

Friends of Connie will gather in front of her home at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009, and proceed to the banks of the Appomattox River to say farewell. All are welcome.
