Richard Jones Obituary

Mr. Richard Lou Jones Sr., also known as "Cooley", of 21604 Stokes Road, Yale, VA, quietly closed his eyes and journeyed to a land free of sickness, sorrow, pain and death.

Richard died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center, Emporia, Va. Born Jan. 31, 1934, to the late Estelle Jones Rose, he was a lifelong resident of Yale, Va., and held membership at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a trustee, a member of the Calvary Baptist Fellowship Choir, Calvary Baptist Senior Choir, the Center Star Baptist Church Choir and sang with the Golden Echoes of Yale and the Sussex Mens' Chorus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Ivory Jones.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted son, Richard Jr. of Yale, Va.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley Rose of Landover, Md., and Willie Nelson Taylor of Petersburg, Va.; two sisters, Evelyn Cary of Yale, Va., and Eunice Jones of Newark, N.J.; 10 sisters-in-law, Carrie Spruill, Theresa Ivory, Thelma Epps, Emma Stith, Shirley Blowe, Annie Ivory, Agnes Rose, Gail Rose, Onnie Ivory and Juanita Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two devoted cousins, Mr. Howard Jones and Mrs. Frances Taylor; a devoted caregiver, Angela Isaac.

Funeral service for Mr. Jones will be held 12 noon, Monday, June 29, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church, 20248 Courthouse Road, Yale, VA, with the Rev. Willie Derr, pastor, officiating.Interment will follow immediately at the Ivory Family Cemetery. Family may be contacted at (804) 895-0208. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Peace Funeral Service, 13013 Park Ave., Stony Creek, VA.
