Catherine Whitmore Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Wynn Whitmore, age 79, of 9607 Graves Road, Matoaca, departed this life Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blackstone.

She was born Oct. 6, 1929, to the late Rodell Wynn and Charlie Wynn. She attended the Dinwiddie County Public School System and was also employed at Central State Hospital for many years. Mrs. Whitmore joined Gravel Run Baptist Church at an early age and later joined the Little Zion Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the church choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Calvin Whitmore; and three sisters, Rebecca Jones, Justin Peyton and Gertrude Tucker.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Calvin Whitmore and Craig Leon Whitmore Sr. (Pamela); a daughter, Constance Whitmore Hall; a brother, Floyd Wynn; a sister, Willie Meaner Branch; eight grandchildren, Derrick Clanton Sr., Narlishwa Lawson, Chanell Lockhart (Nolan), Calvin Leon Whitmore, Craig Whitmore Jr., Barry Jackson, Monte Jackson and Nicholas Whitmore; three great-grandchildren, Amere Lawson-Gee, Derrick Clanton Jr., Jedidiah Lockhart; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Whitmore and Inez Whitmore; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among the friends a devoted Herbert Walker.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, with the Rev, Darrin Brandon, pastor, officiating and eulogy by the Rev. Jeffery Reaves, pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg. The interment will be in Whitmore and Moss Family Cemetery. The family will assemble for the funeral 1 p.m. at the residence of her daughter, 17805 Fox Branch Road, Carson.

It is with great regret that as I fight a war for democracy here in Afghanistan I learn of my aunts passing. She had fought a very long fight herself but she did not do it alone for the LORD watched over her.
