Mae Brown Obituary

Mrs. Mae Ann Brown was born in Darlington, S.C., on Feb. 24, 1954, to the late Ollie and Eva Mae Damon. On July 4, 2009, God sent his Angel to Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, Va., to carry his child home.

Ann received her formal education through Darlington County Public Schools. Upon her graduating from Mayo High School, Ann joined the United States Army, which she served for 22 years before retiring in 1994 as sergeant major. While in the United States Army, Ann achieved several accomplishments for her work. Some of her most cherished accomplishments were being the first black female soldier to hold a first sergeant position and sergeant major position at Fort Lee. After retiring, she was employed at the Virginia Department of Child Support Enforcement and the Virginia Department of Veteran's Services.

At an early age she was baptized and joined Union Baptist Church in Darlington, S.C. Years later she continued to serve the Lord at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of which she was a dedicated member and served on the Building Fund Committee and as a trustee.

Ann was loved and respected by many. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted husband of 28 years, Terry Brown of Prince George, Va.; two daughters, Cinnamon Brown of Prince George, Va., and Erica Pinkney-Ayot(Rafael) of Chesapeake, Va.; two brothers, Lee Ollie Damon of Charlotte, N.C., and Edward Damon (Elaine) of Darlington, S.C.; two sisters, Roina Love of Charlotte, N.C., and Magdalene Damon-Brown of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Brown of Norfolk, Va., and Rodger Brown (Cynthia) of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister-in-law, Hameeda Brown-Stewart (Samuel) of Mt. Rainier, Md.; three grandchildren, Kayla Turner of Prince George, Va., Emani Pinkney and JaQuan Ayot, both of Chesapeake, Va.; special friends, David and Jackie Brown of Chester, Va., Ollie Booker of Chester, Va., Elizabeth Ann Pettis of Prince George, Va., Edward and Wanda Davis of Prince George, Va., John and Linda Jones of Prince George, Va., and Reginald and Janie Williams of Prince George, Va.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and many more special friends.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Prince George, with the Rev. F. Lamont Gooding officiating. The interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence one hour prior to the service.

To Zeke,Cinammon & Kayla

Words don't express the pain we know you must feel. Ann was such a wonderful and caring and respected person. The opportunity to have shared a friendship with her was a blessing. There aren't many in this world today who have genuine love for people and the heart to help others the way she did. A meek and humble heart that showed unconditional love. She leaves a legacy of fond memories for a lot of people that she have touched their lives in one way or another. And as the tears continue to flow; we pray that God shall grant you peace that surpasses all understanding. And that you shall even through your tears; smile when you think of the many fond and cherished memories and times that God allowed you to have together. Know that she's physically gone, but not spiritually gone.

God Bless,

To the Brown Family,

It is with a sincere heart, that we offer condolences in the passing of your love one. I know that there is nothing that can be done to ease your pain, but we will offer words of encouragement. There is no better love than the love of Jesus Christ. He is our everything. Allow Him to give you divine comfort and wipe all of your tears away. Let Him be your strength for tomorrow. Let Him be the joy in your life. There is nothing that our God cannot do. You just have to step aside and let go. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Know that your love one is with the Lord. You loved her but He loved her better. May you seek His divine comfort in you time of need. May God bless you and be with you.
