Janet Ruth Diamond Morgan

Mrs. Janet Ruth Diamond Morgan, age 93, of Petersburg, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at her residence in Walnut Hill.

Raised along with five brothers and sisters by the late Marcellus Oscar and Angeline Armistead Diamond, she married Benjamin Lucius Morgan of Pocahontas. They were residents of both New Brunswick and Lawrenceville, N.J., for more than 50 years, where Janet worked as an Executive Secretary with E. R. Squibb and Sons Pharmaceuticals. While in New Jersey she was an active member of the Urban League, as well as the League of Women Voters, and continued that affiliation when returning home to Petersburg in 1996.

She was a lifetime member of Gillfield Baptist Church, joining Ebenezer Baptist Church while in New Brunswick, Conn.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Ben Morgan; parents, Marcellus and Angeline Diamond; brothers, Marcellus Jr. and William Armistead; sisters, Dorothy (Clark), Faith (Gaskins) and Hope (Cook).

She leaves to cherish her memories and life lessons, five nieces, eleven nephews; a host of great nieces, great nephews and friends.

She touched the lives of many and will be missed.

Services of love and remembrance will be held 6 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Gillfield Baptist Church, 209 Perry Street, Petersburg, VA. The Rev. Dr. George W. C. Lyons Jr., pastor, officiating.
