Just sitting here thinking how he eulogized my husband last year in January and now he too has gone home is a bit much to bear. But I know Rev. Simmons whom I called Joe was ready. Please know that I will keep your family in my prayers. I suggest you look to the hills from whence cometh your help, for it comes from the LORD. I am a first hand witness to how HE can ease your heart when it hurts. May GOD bless you and surround you with HIS anointing.

Words can not express how deeply saddened I am to hear about the passing of Pastor Simmons. Know that you are in my prayers. I find solace as well as consolation in the fact that Rev. Simmons was a powerful man of God! So, there is no question about where he is spending eternity. Rev. Simmons fought the good fight and now his course is finished. I thank God for serving under his leadership at a young age at the First Baptist Church, Jarratt, VA. The Hill Family will always be the better for having had you touch our lives. I can only imagine how you must sound now singing "I Won't Complain"!

My heart is heavy and deeply saddened by the loss of Rev. Simmons. I met him in the most unfortunate of times. I was 19 and visiting the grave of a friend that was taken by violence. He stood back and allowed my best friend & I to grieve and then he softly approached. We stood at the graveyard and talked for over an hour. I went confused and scared and lost and left with a new mentor and friend.
Although over the years, we lost touch. I never forgot the words he gave me every time I saw him. Heaven truly gained an angel. I am glad to be blessed with knowing him.

I used to work with Rev. Simmons at the Southside VA. Training Center in Cottage 39. "Big Joe" loved to eat those home-cooked meals and always joked around with us about how good a basketball player he was.
Today, when I heard that he had past it reminded me that we ALL must travel that same road until GOD calls us home.
Rev. Simmons truly will be missed by everyone who crossed his path. Now, he's in a place where there will be no more suffering or pain. He's there with the LORD...

I will truly miss running into Rev. Simmons out and about. I used to go by and visit him when he worked in the bookstore at the mall and he always kept me laughing. I remember one day last year I stopped at the Nottoway Restaurant off of I 85 and I went to sit down and there he was sitting across the table from me. I was so surprised to see him in that neck of the woods and he joked with me and said "you just never know where you'll see me at". He was actually on his way to a revival, but it was good to see a familiar face and especially his. I am so blessed to have been able to know Rev. Simmons. Heaven was definitely missing an angel and now they have him back, because he was truly an angel. God bless you all.
