Rosa Mason Obituary

Mrs. Rosa Mason 93, of 2302 Freeman St., Hopewell, died Thursday, July 30, 2009.

Mrs. Mason was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Mason; parents, Mathew and Nettie Williams; brothers, Hermon and Spencer; and sister Nettie Wallace.

She is survived by a daughter, Florence (James) Collins of Hopewell; a son, Gregory Mason; a sister, Alberta Coles of Philadelphia; two daughters she raised, the Rev. Earline Watkins of Hopewell and Tracy River Jones of Petersburg. She has seven grandchildren, Reggie, Norfolk, Lavene (Ben) Wheeler, Hopewell, Florence (Alfonzo) Jones, Darnell, Timothy, Maurice Thorne and Robert (Velvet) Collins of Hopewell, several great-grandchildren, a devoted niece, Macy Hughes of New York; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in the Tri-Cities.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at the Friendship Baptist Church, Hopewell. The Rev. Carl Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Appomattox Cemetery.
