Osie Thomas

Ms. Osie Thomas went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 30, 2009. She was born on May 20, 1941, in Bluefield, W.Va., to Leona and Caldwell Thomas, who preceded her in death.

Ms. Osie was a wonderful humanitarian who with style and grace lived a life of service; always willing to go above and beyond to help others. Ms. Osie opened her heart and her home to many in need. To some she was an angel in disguise and to those who did not have family she filled in the gaps. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and confidant. Her presence will tremendously be missed.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her children, Cynthia Crowell (Windsor), Abigail Thomas (Julius), Joe Lewis Thomas (Shawn), Mildred Thomas, Josie Forde (Glenn), Eddie Thomas, and Teddy Thomas (Doreen), Patricia Wheeler, Larry Edwards, LaVar Thomas, Julius Walton and Jessica Walton; 24 loving grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Clarise Harrison. She has a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Because she touched the lives of many she has several extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, from the Chapel of Tucker's Funeral Home, Petersburg; Pastor Virginia Graham, pastor of God Mission Church, Ettrick, Va., officiating. The family will assemble at the residence, 2228 Van Dorn St., Petersburg, at 2 p.m.
