Jaunita Andrews Obituary

Jaunita Newsome Andrews, 87, of Hopewell, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, in John Randolph Medical Center.

She was born in Alabama and had been a long-time resident of Hopewell. Mrs. Andrews was a member of Powers Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed square dancing in her spare time. She was a retired civilian employee from Fort Lee, where she worked as an off-set printer operator. Mrs. Andrews was preceded in death by her parents, Paul L. and Minnie Lee Plaster Newsome; her husband, Herman E. Andrews Sr.; and three brothers, Oscar, Charles and Lester Newsome.

She is survived by two sons, Herman E. Andrews Jr. and his wife, Annette, of Hopewell, David P. Andrews and his wife, Maria, of Quinton, Va.; a daughter, Clara F. Howerton and her husband, Nathan, of Amelia County; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Katherine N. Lowder of Melbourne, Fla., Nellie N. Parsons of Phenix City, Ala.; two brothers, Royal Newsome and Ernest Newsome, both of Melbourne, Fla.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Blandford Cemetery, on Crater Road in Petersburg, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Robert Breckenridge, pastor of Powers Memorial Baptist Church, officiating. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com.
