As Edna & Helen Stump left their farm in Nov. 1998, my husband and I purchased the property. In Dec. of 1998 we found out that we were going to be blessed with twin daughters. Our daughters, Sarah & Hannah, were born 8/19/99. If they live to be 101+, they will live through 3 centuries as the Stump sister's have. I attempted to have my daughter's Girl Scout Troop visit the nursing home that Helen was in, this past Christmas, to carol for the residents. We were turned away because of the flu. I wanted my girls, now 10, to meet Helen and have a photo taken. We truly feel blessed to own their home and hopefully have as many wonderful memories as they did. Our prayers and heartfelt sympathy to all that knew Helen. If any family members would like to visit and share memories or photos, we welcome you.

I remember well visiting Aunt Helen and Aunt Edna when we were kids. We'd go put flowers on the graves at the cemetary near the farm and go visit. I loved those visits. It was like stepping into another century. Wood stove in the kitchen that they cooked on, big house with fireplaces in the bedrooms and the original furniture, beautiful gardens, they each had their own,and a Model T Ford in the barn, it was an adventure and Aunt Helen was so very kind and sweet. Those yearly visits stopped when I was still a kid so I didn't see her much after that. Then about 10 years ago when I was working in a hospital my Mom told me Aunt Helen was a patient there. I went to see her right away. She seemed so very tiny,I wasn't a kid anymore, and she had trouble hearing me at first but as soon as she understood who I was we had a nice take and she was still just a sweet as I remembered. What a lovely person to have had in my life.
I am also a great niece, granddaughter of Helen's sister Mamie, and Mamie's daughter Helen. My Mother Helen is 80 years old and the only immediate family member left of her generation. She must have gotten some of Aunt Helen's genes.

When I was young visiting at the Stump homestead was not very exciting, everyone sat around and talked Dutch. Once I was grown I appreciated the family ties that Aunt Helen & Aunt Edna provided. I took my children so they could meet their great, great aunts. Those dear ladies were always so gracious and seemed to enjoy sharing their lives as much as we enjoyed hearing their stories. At my last visit I took my son, his wife & daughter (probably in the mid 90's). They gave us a tour of the farm house, told stories, shared pictures (I recall some of Civil War soldiers), and brought out, from somewhere, delicious homemade goodies. I have some recipes hand written by Aunt Helen that I will treasure always. She also gave me a bar of her homemade soap.
I am a great niece, granddaughter of Helen's sister Mamie, daughter of Mamie's son LeRoy Schroeder.
I'll see you in heaven, Aunt Helen!

I remeber visiting Aunt Helen as a child and she would always translate from Pa Dutch so I would understand what the grown ups were talking about. She was a wonderful person and just so she know which great neice I am, I am Helen's daughter who is one of Mamie's daughter and the last of her generation to stil be alove. God bless you Aunt Helen

Harvey,

Helen did have a long life. I remember she was very nice when as a kid we'd stop in before walking home from school. Her gardens were always well kept. My sympathies to you and the family.
