Elwood Traphagen Obituary

Walden, NY

Elwood Traphagen, a retired self employed carpenter and a lifelong resident of Walden, NY, died Friday, June 20, 2008 Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, NY. He was 83.

The son of Alden and Margaret Hedden Traphagen, he was born July 18, 1924 in Newburgh. Elwood was the husband of the late Thelma Traphagen. He also was a WW II Navy Veteran. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Walden VFW, and Walden Senior Citizens, all in Walden. He also was a member of the New Paltz Elks Lodge #2568.

He is survived by his two sons, John A. and his wife, Sharon of Pine Bush and Robert E. and his wife, Mary Ann of Freeville; one brother, Arthur Traphegen of Wayland, NY; one sister, Mildred McKeig of Pine Bush; grandchildren: John D., Brian, David, Matthew, and James and his wife, Sherry; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Nathan; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Traphagen.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 4-8 p.m. at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY.

Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Walden. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden.

In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church or the New Paltz Elks Lodge #2568.

Arrangements were by the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc., 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY, 845-778-3811.
