Ruth Durand Obituary

Greenwood Lake, NY

Ruth Durand, a registered nurse and homemaker and a longtime resident of the area, died on Saturday, June 21, 2008 in Schervier Pavilion in Warwick. She was 99.

The daughter of the late John M. and Hattie Rickenbach Sell, she was born on March 9, 1909 in New Foundland, NJ.

She was the widow of Eugene J. Durand.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Greenwood Lake, where she served as head of the Altar Guild for many years. She was an avid bowler and had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Frank Durand and his wife, Joyce of Hewitt, NJ and Nancy Simoneau and her husband, Ken of Hewitt, NJ; her grandchildren, Denise and David Murphy of Roanoke, VA, Donna and Jeffrey Hart of Greenwood Lake, Darcy and Jim Halbig of Greenwood Lake, Christine and David Mednick of Wesley Hills, NY, Paul and Karen Miller of Warwick, Sharlene and Don Pizza of Warwick; great-grandchildren, Karin and Captain Jeremy Bourque, Kyle, Thomas and Paul Murphy, Jeffrey Hart Jr., Gregory Hart, Justin and Jack Halbig, Jared and Ashley Miller, Louis Mednick, Jessica Christoffel and Amelia and Isabella Pizza.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Diane Mary Durand.

Visitation hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak St. in Greenwood Lake, NY.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 27 at the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Burial will be at the Greenwood Lake Cemetery, Greenwood Lake, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Church of the Good Shepherd in Greenwood Lake, NY.
