James Mari Obituary
James (Jim) Mari, age 93, passed away peacefully July 5, 2008, in his home in Garrapata Ridge, CA surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born June 15, 1915 in New Britain, CT to Adeliene and Ernest Mari and was one of nine children. He grew up on Long Island, NY, where he met and married the love of his life, Helen Woods. They were blessed to be married 74 years. After moving to upstate NY, Jim answered his country's call to service, building air strips on Alaska's Aleutian Islands as a civilian contractor with the U.S. military. Upon his return to Sugar Loaf, NY, Jim began his lifelong career in real estate development, designing and breaking ground for many attractive housing communities and lakes. He was the proprietor of the Sugar Loaf Hills Water Company and served as a councilman on the Chester, NY Town Board.
Jim loved traveling, Renaissance art and culture, gardening, cooking and the NY Yankees.
He is dearly missed by his beloved wife, Helen; his son, Robert Mari and daughter-in-law, Wendy of Pebble Beach, CA; and his daughter, Diane Westerveld of Chester, NY. His dearly loved daughter, Helen Kronkhyte-Banks preceded him in death in March 2006. He leaves six grandchildren who each feel they were special to him: Robert Kronkhyte and wife Wendy, of Tahoe City, CA; Corey Kronkhyte of San Jose, CA; Kim (Kronkhyte) Bonino and husband Brad of Lincoln, CA; Mickey Wright and wife Susan of Temple, GA; Bonnie Wright and husband Ken Kovach of Warwick, NY; and Jay Westerveld and fiance, Holly of Sugar Loaf, NY. Jim also leaves four great-grandchildren: Angelo Bonino, Scott Schleiff, Alyssa and Trystyn Wright.
The services for James Mari are tentatively scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 in the Santa Rosalia Chapel on the grounds of San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey, CA.
