Albert Hummel Obituary

Formerly of Chester, NY

Albert Carl Hummel of Hickman, TN, formerly of Chester, NY, was welcomed to his eternal and heavenly home of rest on Saturday evening, July 5, 2008. He was 93.

He was born March 18, 1915 to Grace Evelyn and Frederich Heinrich Hummel. His mother passed away when he was 8 to 9 days old. His maternal grandmother, Sarah Blair, raised Carl.

He married Emily Abolin in September 1941. He was the owner of Hummel's Laundromat in Monroe and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II. His Christian love and generosity were evident in many areas of service: the Craigville Bible Church, Winn Rielke's Camp for Disabled Kids, where he provided laundry equipment and maintenance service for over 50 years. He supported missionaries not only in generous giving but in providing very practical help such as caring for their children at times and always there with encouragement wherever it was needed.

In 1957, Carl and Emily began spending winter months in Florida but maintained their home in Chester, NY. This expanded into many new opportunities for Christian service through churches in Florida, as well as contacts on a personal level. In 1987, his beloved Emily went to Heaven. Carl married Winnie Webb Grimm on April 15, 1988. He and Winnie were married 19 years until she went to her Heavenly home on March 3, 2007. They had many good years of service together, serving as short term mission helpers, as well as personal encouragers in their churches and at Penney Farms Retirement Community in Florida from 2001 until 2007. Carl chose to leave the center and moved to Tennessee with a friend, John Kavulich, who could be his personal care giver.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Craigville Bible Church, 789 Craigville Road, Chester, with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating.

Funeral arrangements were made by Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Homes, Monroe. www.ssqfuneralhome.com or 845-782-8185.
