Catherine Reilly Obituary
Catherine Veronica "Kitty" Reilly died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, August 9, 2008. She was 87.
She was born February 1, 1921 to Tommy and Mary Catherine McMahon Reilly of Magheross Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, Ireland. She graduated from St. Louis Covent School and worked locally as a bookkeeper until moving to Philadelphia in 1948.
In 1950, she married Joseph Reilly (also of Carrickmacross) in Philadelphia and moved to Ossining. Kitty had worked for the Ossining School district and afterwards at Varsity Studios, Ossining, until she retired. She also worked part-time for the Board of Elections at Brookside School as an inspector.
Kitty was a very active parishioner of St. Augustine's Church in Ossining, where she was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Golden Eagles, and worked behind the scenes at many a parish function. She provided rides for many friends and parishioners to daily Mass and would go out of her way to help anyone. She lived a life of kindness, service, and forgiveness to all. Along with her love of dancing (both step-dancing and ballroom,) Kitty was a leader in the Carrickmacross Girl Guides (Girl Scouts) in the 1940's and served as a Troop Leader with the Ossining Girl Scouts and Brownies during the '60s.
Joe predeceased her in 1977, but she leaves behind her four children: Jack (Anne) Reilly of Ossining, Kathy (Pat) Geaney of Ossining, Margaret (Joe) D'Agostino of Ossining, and Mary (Patrick) Duffy of Monroe, NY; ten grandchildren: Sean, Brendan (Catherine), Tara Anne, Deirdre, Brenda, Patrick, Leanna, Katie, Shane, and Claire; several cousins, including lifelong cousin and friend, Eileen Clarke of Baileborough, Co. Cavan and Marion Moore of Co. Mayo, and many nieces and nephews, here and abroad.
Visitation was held Sunday, August 10, at Dorsey Funeral Home, 14 Emwilton Pl., Ossining, NY.
A Mass will be celebrated today, Monday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church. Internment will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Augustine's Church would be appreciated.
