Catherine Italiano Obituary

August 17, 1906 - August 11, 2008

Catherine died peacefully on August 11 (just days before her 102nd birthday) at St. Teresa Nursing Home, Middletown, NY, with her children, Lee & John LoMeli at her bedside. She moved to Washingtonville from Yonkers in 1992 to reside with Lee & John. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Born in Italy, she arrived in the USA at the age of eight, with her late parents, Carmela & Calogero Fortunato (and siblings), settling in NYC. Catherine was a Seamstress in Manhattan until she retired at the age of 65.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lee & John LoMeli of Washingtonville; brothers, Thomas Fortunato of Bethel, CT and Charles Fortunato and wife, Louisa of the Bronx; grandchildren: Debra & Robert Coyle of Gardiner, Kathryn LoMeli/Vincent Biagini, Jr. of Washingtonville, Karen & Charles Grippo of California, John P. LoMeli of Washingtonville, Steven LoMeli/Karen Curley of Monroe, Anthony Vitale of California. She also leave eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Catherine was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Anthony Vitale and three sisters.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 14 from 4-8 p.m. at The David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, NY 10992.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, August 15. Entombment will be at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY.
