Robert Nichols Obituary
Robert Nichols of Middletown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at home. He was 81.
The son of Peter Nichols and Anna Mae Collins, he was born on May 20, 1927 in Yonkers, NY. Robert worked as a shop stewart for Louis Hornick, a curtain manufacturer until his retirement. A resident of the area since 1974, he was a member of the Mt. Hope Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Known as "PopPop" to everyone he was a very dedicated and spiritual man. He enjoyed boxing and was a fan of Joe Lewis. He liked watching old westerns and loved jazz music. He had a great record selection and loved to dance.
Robert is survived by his 11 children; six sons: David of Middletown, Darryl and his wife, Robin of Houston, TX, Robert of North Carolina, Dwayne of Middletown, Theodore of Brooklyn, Jeffrey and his wife, Tasiana of Middletown; and five daughters: Bethann Briley and her husband, Edward, and Robyn Ricks and her husband, Peter, all of North Carolina, Penny Maccalla and her husband, Ken of Middletown, Celeste Gillian and her husband, Cliff and Kimberly Nichols, all of North Carolina; 29 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Dale Cemetery, Ossining, NY.
