James Gibson Obituary

October 20, 1923 - September 8, 2008

Middletown, NY

James Louis Gibson of Middletown, NY, formerly of Montgomery, known to many as "Major" and a lifelong resident of the area died Monday, September 8, 2008, at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, in Middletown. He was 84.

He was a retired Maintenance worker for Orange County Infirmary, and he also worked for O & W Railroad. The son of the late Louis and Margaret Stacklum Gibson, he was born October 20, 1923 in Middletown, NY.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, and after overcoming Polio as a child, he played three sports in Montgomery High School; baseball, soccer, and basketball. He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery Fire Department, a social member of the Silver Lake Fire Company in Middletown, and a member of the Elks Club.

Survivors include his wife, Lena at home; sister, Mary Ann Gibson of Liverpool, NY; brother, Frank Gibson and wife, Frederica of Liverpool, NY; daughter, Donna Stinson of Otisville; grandsons, Daniel and David Stinson of Otisville; nephew, James Gibson of Media PA; nephew, Thomas Gibson of Canandaigua, NY; niece, Patricia Gibson of Greene, NY; four great-nieces, and cousin, Margaret Stacklum. He was predeceased by his brother Arthur.

Visitation will be Friday, September 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union St., Montgomery, NY.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery in Montgomery, NY.

Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors, 845-778-3200.
