Ruth Weltman Obituary

Middletown, NY

Ruth Eileen Pennyfeather Weltman of Middletown, NY, entered into eternal rest on September 18, 2008, after a long illness.

Known by all as Penny, she was born in Madrid, NY on August 27, 1931, to John and Flora Sherman Pennyfeather.

Penny was a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her nursing career spanned more than 50 years in various capacities at Utica and St. Lawrence State Hospitals, St. Francis Hospital in Port Jervis, and Middletown Psychiatric Center in Middletown, where she never used a sick day. We loved her childhood stories and hearing of her and her friend's hijinks at nursing school and work. Our mom showed us how to be charitable and compassionate to others. She was kind to animals and loved feeding birds. Anyone was welcomed to the dinner table. Mom loved to garden and could make anything grow and thrive. We always considered her our walking and talking encyclopedia. Crossword puzzles never stood a chance with Mom on our side. Other interests included crocheting, travel, and most importantly, her family. Mom was Dad's 'rock' and was always there for us, our friends and our spouses. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter brought her great joy."

Penny is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Weltman; one sister, Gertrude Marrah and her husband, William Patrick; sons, David Weltman of Middletown, Matthew Weltman and his wife, Karen Perry of Greenwood Lake, NY; daughter, Miah Usmani and her husband, Casey Usmani of Winchester, VA. Survivors also include grandchildren: Dana Weltman Marcovecchio and her husband, Jay, Silken and Logan Usmani, as well as one great-granddaughter, Chloe Marcovecchio, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Penny was predeceased by her sisters: Kathleen, Irene, Margaret, and Rita, and brothers: Allen, William and John Morgan.

Penny will be cremated and burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Middletown, NY.

There will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fair Oaks Humane Society, 142 Bloomingburg Rd., Middletown, NY 10940.

We dearly love and miss you and will never forget you. We would like to thank Dr. Sasannejad for his warm, loving nature and superb care that sustained Penny through a decade of cardiological treatment. To the staff of the Horton division of ORMC, the family extends our gratitude for their skilled attentiveness and compassion towards Penny and her family during her long illness.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, NY; 845-343-6918. Condolences may be sent to www.morsefh.com.

Having worked with Ruth for several years at Middletown Psych.Ctr. I got to hear some of those great childhood stories and hijinks along the way. She sat in my office and talked often of these things. I was glad to have had the opportunity to share some of my not so exciting experiences with her and every now and then make her chuckle.

My sincere condolences to the family.
