Charles Lombaerde Obituary

Layton, NJ

Mr. Charles August Lombaerde of Layton, NJ, a longtime resident of the area, died Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at Newton Memorial Hospital. He was 80.

He was born July 20, 1928 in Paterson, NJ, the son of the late Charles James and Mary Standard Lombaerde. He married Carol Seidel 54 years ago on July 24, 1954 in Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Paterson, NJ.

He was an active member of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Montague, NJ. Charles proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a life member of the American Motorcycle Assn, and was a member of the Roosa-Fleming V.F.W. Post #161 in Port Jervis.

In the 1950's he was a CYO Advisor at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Patterson, NJ. In the 1960's he was the institutional representative for the Layton Cub Scout Troop. He retired as a Telephone Technician after 35 years with the NJ Bell, where he was awarded the Vail Medal. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Local #827.

A family statement reads: "Charles loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors and he also loved spending time with his grandsons, Anthony and Matthew and hunting with his son, Clark."

He is survived by wife, Carol Lombaerde at home; daughter, Christy and her husband, Frank Mastrelli of Dingman's Ferry, PA; daughter, Cherlyn and her husband, Tom Dickens of Lincolnville Center, ME; son, Clark and his wife, Candise Lombaerde of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; son, Charles and his wife, Helen Lombaerdo of Milford, PA; four grandchildren: Anthony and Matthew Mastrelli, Adrienne Lombaerde and T.C. Dickens.

Friends may call at St. James the Greater R.C. Church, 75 River Rd., Montague, NJ on Friday, September 26, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James the Greater R.C. Church, with the Rev. A. Richard Carton officiating. Burial will be at Hainesville Cemetery, Hainesville, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James the Greater R.C. Church, 75 River Rd., Montague, NJ 07827.
