Johan C. Holbert of Wallkill, NY, a retired Seamstress and a lifelong resident of the area, passed into God's arms on Saturday, September 27, 2008, in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 91.

The daughter of the late Thomas and Johan Fraser Keesler, she was born February 18, 1917 in Scranton, PA.

She was an active member of the Reformed Church in Wallkill, Women's Guild and a church volunteer. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and member of AARP, and the Wallkill Seniors.

She was the widow of Elmer E Holbert. Kate and Elmer were married in 1936 in Pennsylvania and moved to New York shortly after. Johan worked as a seamstress for many years, then worked at Champion Bag Company for over twenty years.

Survivors include her brother, Thomas Keesler, Sr. and his wife, Audrey of Wallkill; sons: Elmer F. Holbert and his wife, Ethel of Plattekill and Ronald E. Holbert and his wife, Barbara of Pine Bush; also her loving grandchildren: Royal Watters Jr. and his wife, Carmela, James Watters and his wife, Jill, Raymond Watters and his wife, Michelle, Eirik Holbert and his wife, Terri, MaryBeth Henderson and her husband, George, Jennifer Valasquez and her husband, Dennis, Angelique Cully and her fiancé, Charles Steinard; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Johan Eva Watters; son-in-law, Royal A. Watters; her sister, Isabel and brother, Garrett.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, at the Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., Wallkill, NY.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, at the Wallkill Reformed Church, 45 Bridge St., Wallkill, NY, with the Rev. Toni Macon officiating. Burial will be in Bruynswick Rural Cemetery in Wallkill, NY.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Wallkill Reformed Church, PO Box 54, Wallkill, NY 12589 or the charity of one's choice, in memory of Johan.
