Ronald Simon Obituary

Formerly of Port Jervis, NY

Ronald R. Simon, 63, of Carteret died Friday, July 18, 2008, at his home.

Born in Middletown, NY, he lived in Port Jervis, NY, and then Carteret for the past 39 years. Before retiring in 1999, he was employed as an electrical engineer with CBS Viacom in New York City for 25 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Carteret. He was Past Grand Knight for the Carteret Knights of Columbus Father Carey Council, and a Life Member of the Carteret V.F.W. Private Nicholas Minue Memorial Star Landing Post 2314. He was a retired municipal coordinator of the Carteret Office of Emergency Management. He was an amateur hand radio operator. He belonged to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Management Association and Institute of Electrical Electronic Engineers, the Society of Cable Engineers, the Advisory Board the National Cable Television Association, a member of the UEZ Board in Carteret, and a member of the National Association of Broadcasters. He was a pioneer in the research and development in cable television; he was the chief engineer of the teleprompter Manhattan Corporation, and was the first person to splice fiber-optic cable in New York City.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, the former Jo-Ann Russell; a daughter, Meg Simon Pizzano of Parlin; a son, Michael Simon of Carteret; a sister, Kathleen Simon-McDonald; a niece, Suzanne Simon-McDonald, and three godchildren, Jeffrey Hamaid, Carolynn Schultz and Suzanne Simon-McDonald. He was predeceased by his parents, Gladys Huber Simon and Eugene Alexander Simon of the Golden Willow Farm on Lime Kiln Road, Port Jervis, New York.

A Memorial Service and burial will be held on October 18, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rahway, NJ, at 11 a.m.

We just read about Ronnie's death on the internet and wanted to extend our sympathy to all of you. It has been a while since I saw Ronnie but will always remember him and the fun we had as kids and on into adulthood. He will be missed.
