Marva Banks Obituary

Newburgh, NY

Marva Jo Banks, 65, a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church in Newburgh, NY, died October 15, 2008, after a short illness at Prince George Community Hospital in Cheverly, MD.

Ms. Banks had lived in Newburgh, NY, off and on since 1971, and at the time of her death she resided in Glenn Dale, MD.

Ms. Banks was born in Jenkinjones, WV on September 18, 1943. She attended public schools in McDowell and Mercer counties. She spent her teen years in Bluefield, WV.

As a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, she was a member of the Usher Board and Special Occasion Committee. She served also as a Soup Kitchen Helper and as the Assistant Sexton.

She is preceded in death by her son, French A. Banks; mother, Mamie S. Banks; father, French A. Banks; four brothers: Everett, Harold, Jerome and Dwight. Ms. Banks is survived by her five sisters: Willa D. Duck and her husband, John of Newburgh, Eugenia Owens and her husband, Howard of New Windsor, Athalene Elliott and her husband, Tulusof Antioch, CA, Greta S. Vaught and her husband, Emory of Odenton, MD, and Mary L. Coleman and her husband, William of Glenn Dale, MD; seven brothers: Carson Banks Sr. and his wife, Dorothy of Mitchellville, MD, Elsworth Banks and his wife, Shirley of Newburgh, NY, Fermon Banks of Jacksonville, NC, Ernest Banks and his wife, Ruth of Newburgh, NY, Billy C. Banks and his wife, Patricia of Bluefield, WV, Twyman Banks and his wife, Charlotte of Roanoke, VA, and Maurice Banks of Bluefield, WV; along with numerous nieces, nephews, as well as a host of extended family and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 20 Rev. Dr. Coleman Briggs Way, Newburgh, NY. Services will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Dr. Coleman Briggs officiating. Interment will be Thursday, October 23, at Restlawn Memorial Estate, Littleburg, WV.
