Floyd C. "Pete" Howell, 72, of Goshen, NY, died Saturday, October 25, 2008 with his family around him at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus in Goshen, NY.

Pete was born March 21, 1936 in Goshen, NY, the son of Floyd C. Howell, Sr. and Molly (Huestis) Howell. He was the husband of Marjorie Howell.

Pete was a lifetime area resident, and 1955 graduate of Goshen High School. He joined the Minisink Hook and Ladder Co. in 1953 and was an active fireman for over 50 years. He was past Chief of the Goshen Fire Department from 1972 to 1975, Orange County Deputy Fire Coordinator from 1978 to 1995; member of the New York State Fire Chiefs Association, Hudson Valley Firemen's Association, Orange County Fire Chiefs Association Honorary Life Member of the Port Jervis Fire Department, and member of the Goshen Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #365. He retired from the New York State Thruway Authority as a Heavy Equipment Operator.

Survivors include his wife, Marty Howell of 51 years; daughter, Sharon Nowak and her husband, Fred; son, Jeffery Howell; brother, Ronald Howell and his wife, Renate; sister, Joan Gardenbrock; four grandchildren: Shannon Sanchez, Ryan Osborne, Shaun Howell and Brandon Egbertson; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Egbertson.

Visitation will be Monday, October 27, from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, Inc., 82 S. Church St., Goshen, with a Fireman's Service at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 28, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Wilderman officiating. Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Goshen, NY.

Contributions may be made in Pete's name to the Minisink Hook and Ladder Co., PO Box 57, Goshen, NY 10924.
