JoAnn Greer Obituary

Formerly of Greenville, NY

JoAnn Greer died peacefully with family and friends by her side on Sunday, October 26, 2008, after battling a prolonged illness. True to her spirit and the way she chose to live her life, JoAnn fought the good fight to the end and now is at peace.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 2100 E. Fifth St., Greenville, NC 27858, on Tuesday, October 28, at 2 p.m. and will be followed by a graveside service in Pinewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

The family will sit Shiva from 2 to 8 p.m., at the home of Elliot Greer after the funeral, and on Wednesday, October 29.

Born on February 21, 1950, in New York City, NY, she is the daughter of Stanley Rose of New York and the late Jean Rose.

She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and enjoyed a long career in the fashion industry. JoAnn relocated to Greenville in 2001 and was involved in many civic organizations including the Greenville Service League and Rocking Horse Ranch. It is often said that the brightest stars burn out the fastest, in JoAnn's case, never a truer word has been spoken.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Elliot Greer, who has and always will love her; daughter, Meridith Harrington and husband, Kevin of Greenville; daughter, Leigh Greer of Greenville; father, Stanley Rose of New York, and sister, Lynn Rudisuhli of Greenville.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Leo Jenkins Cancer Center of Greenville and the University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice for their support through this difficult time. They especially want to thank Dr. Paul Walker for his caring and compassion which was beyond the call of duty. The family would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Matt Murchison, Leigh's fiancé and all JoAnn's special friends who supported her and gave her strength on this most difficult journey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Dr., Greenville, NC 27834.

Elliott, Meredith, Leigh and family-- Burt and I was so saddened to learn about Joann's illness just a few weeks ago. Fond memories of the girls together, and sharing many afternoons of bowling and coffee, and our trip to Hershey Park, and Leigh only wanting VELVEETA cheese.
The last time we saw each other was in Cancun, at the crowded airport.
We are so sorry for your loss, JoAnn was a loving and close friend.
You are in our hearts.
