Jean Kellman Obituary

Central Valley, NY

On Wednesday night, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall, NY, Jean Kellman passed away after a short illness. She was 81 years old, thanks to many wonderful physicians who took such good care of her.

She was the daughter of the late Francis and Florence Kyff Bretnall, born in Yonkers, NY. Jean moved to Central Valley 55 years ago, when she married Edward J. Kellman, and never wanted to leave.

For those fortunate enough to have known her and been warmed by her wonderful smile, Jean is remembered as an extraordinarily generous and caring person. When first arriving in town, she volunteered with the Library, Girl Scouts and the Ambulance Corps. As soon as they started a family, she devoted her life to them.

Jean leaves her loving daughters, Susan Maxwell and her husband, Larry of Davidsonville, MD and Lisa Holton and her husband, Scott of Chester, NY. Her beloved husband, Ed of 52 years predeceased her three years ago. Other family includes her sister, Gail Norton and husband, Wayne of Pennington, AL and their daughters, Lori and Lynn and their families, and a brother, Robert and his wife, Joan of St. Petersburg, FL and their families. She loved all animals and also leaves her cat, Armani, who gave her much comfort and joy.

Her passions included cooking, baking and collecting hundreds of cookbooks, which she also used in the creation of many memorable meals. Dining out was a favorite of hers, but she most delighted in entertaining many generations of friends, seeing them enjoy her culinary creations and gracious hospitality. Jean was also an avid reader of biographies, mysteries and thrillers. Jean, known as "Jeannie" to some, leaves many wonderful devoted friends, special cousins and acquaintances who will remember her for her kindness, generous spirit, sense of humor and style. She loved them all dearly.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean's name to The Goosepond Animal Hospital Stray Fund, 1110 Rt. 17M, Monroe, NY 10950.

Arrangements are private and have been entrusted to Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home; www.ssqfuneralhome.com or 845-782-8185.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I knew Judge Kellman from working at the town clerk's office, and met Jean on several occassions. She was a lovely woman.
