Catherine L. Van Houten

Highland Mills - Catherine L. Van Houten, a 56-year area resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland. She was 78. Daughter of the late Albert Francese and Carmela Coviello Francese, she was born in Newark, N.J. on December 14, 1928. Catherine was a retired clerk for the Mountainville Post Office and was a member of the Highland Mills Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary; a member of St. Patrick's Church, Highland Mills and a member of the Woodbury Golden Agers in Highland Mills. She was the widow of George W. Van Houten. Jr. She is survived by a son, George W. Van Houten, III and his wife Judy of New Paltz; a daughter, Katherine Gallagher and her husband Jack of Archbald, Pa.; four grandchildren, Mark Gallagher and wife Nicole, Brian Gallagher, Sarah Van Houten, Eric Van Houten; and great-grandson Gavin M. Gallagher. She was predeceased by a brother Louis Francese. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 515 Route 32, Highland Mills. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Highland Mills with the Rev. John Palaparambil officiating. Interment will be in the Cemetery of the Highlands, Highland Mills.
