Muriel I. Zimmer

Goshen, NY - Muriel I. Zimmer died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Elant at Goshen. She was 95.

The daughter of the late Royal Chauncy M. and Isabel Stewart Depew, she was born on October 27, 1912 in Manhattan, N.Y.

Muriel has been an active member of the community since her move from Queens in 1974. She volunteered her time twice a week at O.R.M.C., Arden Hill Campus as a member of R.S.V.P., logging in over 5000 hours. Mom was a generous woman who felt that all she ever needed was her family. She was dedicated to each of us and was always there to help in any way she could. Her energy, spirit and love will always be an inspiration to us. Though she always felt she was "just ok", we know she was "the best Mom and grandma ever." We want to send special thanks to all the staff of Paff 3 in Elant who loved and cared for Mom and who were always so kind and thoughtful to all our family especially in the days before her death.

Muriel is survived by her children, Robert J. Zimmer and his wife Pamela of Columbus, Ga. and Susan E. Zimmer and her life partner, Regina Cicchetti of Greenville; her son-in-law Denis Barry Jr. of Central Valley; her sister, Dorothy Schunk of Elmont, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Denis Barry III, Colleen Lazarus, Bob Barry, Paul Zimmer, Brian Zimmer and Sean Martin; and 12 great-grandchildren, Violet, Jack, Patrick and Jimmy Lazarus, Denis IV, Olivia and Declan Barry, Madalyn, Jillian and Amanda Barry, Brooke and Griffin Zimmer and one on the way. She was predeceased by her husband Otto in 1980 and her daughter, Carol A. Barry in January of this year.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY, 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 12 at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY 10963. Fr. Peter Tran Van Phat and Fr. Joseph Whittel will concelebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in the family plot in Holy Name Cemetery, Otisville.
