Albert Ernest Miller

Albert Ernest Miller January 31, 1913-August 7, 2008 Resident of San Francisco Originally from Shepshed England, died last Thursday night at the age of 95. The youngest of 10 children Al was an avid boxer who became the middleweight champion of England and the British armed forces. He was a sergeant with the St. John's Ambulance Brigade, also a life member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was a member of the British Royal Artillery during WWII serving in Europe, Africa and India with distinction. After emigrating to San Francisco, USA. In 1950, he then sent for his family, Gladys, 1916-1983, and their sons. Al began working at the Garden Hospital (now California Pacific Medical Center) where he retired as the head of the physical therapy department after 47 years of dedicated service in 1987. During his retirement, Al could often be found on the bay in his sailboat, making woodcarvings, or spending time at the house in Dutch Flat, CA. Al is survived by his sons: Stephen and his wife Litsa; Lynne and his wife Gail; and Michael and Sharon; grandchildren, Kathryn, Seth and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Ydalia and Iban. He will be greatly missed by all of them.
